Reece McGregor

Triathlete - Ironman

Born in Maryland and living in northern Delaware for most of his life, Reece found it challenging to compete during his early years. Growing up as a top-level alpine ski racer from one of the flattest states in the country was a big challenge.  Training involved significant travel. Reece spent his weekends traveling north to the Poconos or the New England area.

Reece spent his Junior and Senior years at Carrabassett Valley Academy, a school dedicated to ski racing.  He was able to ski 7 days a week while also taking classes. The school provides the opportunity for the student-athletes to race all over the world.  Having competed in both national and international level events, Reece developed an understanding of what it takes to reach the top level of a sport. Unfortunately, due to an injury in high school, Reeces’s skiing career ended just before entering college.

However, the injury didn’t keep him from pursuing other athletic activities.

Reece attended West Virginia University where he was a walk-on for the WVU’s soccer team. He was fortunate enough to be able to spend two seasons with the college soccer team.  Reece also got to enjoy a 14-day backpacking expedition to explore glaciers in Chile.

The current era of triathlon competitions began a few years later. Reece was introduced to triathlons by his now wife, Meghan.  His first race was an Xterra off-road racing event at Big Bear Lake, MD.  Growing up a pool rat, he was first out of the water.  Reece found pleasure in the suffering that comes with mountain biking and running after a strong swim.

For Reece, the expensive addiction of competing in triathlons began.

Reece has been competing in triathlons for 5 years.  In that time, he has qualified for the 70.3 World championships and Xterra World Championships. To date, Reece has completed twelve 70.3s and nine 140.6 distance Ironman races.  In addition, he has competed in numerous Olympic and Sprint distance events.

His current goal is to qualifying for the Ironman World Championships.

Currently, Reece works as a Landman in Colorado for multiple oil and gas companies.  His wife attends law school at the University of Denver. They enjoy being out in the Rocky mountains whenever possible with their dog Flora.
