Brianna (Bri) grew up in Cheyenne, Wyoming. At the age of 10, she became interested in inline speed skating with a pair of rollerblades.
Brianna is a former National Champion Inline Speed Skater and a three-time USA World Team member.
Throughout high school, Brianna enjoyed being a part of a team through playing varsity basketball. After high school graduation, Brianna moved to Salt Lake City, where she is currently pursuing her dreams. She hopes to become an Olympic long track speed skater and to study forensic science. Brianna obtained her Associate Degree from the Salt Lake Community College and is pursuing a degree in Forensic Science from Utah Valley University.
Brianna has transitioned to the ice with great success. As a 20-year-old rookie at the Olympic Trials, Brianna placed in the top 10 during her debut. She placed 9th, 7th, and 10th in the 1000m, 500m, and 1500m races, respectively. This amazing rookie success was quickly followed by being crowned the Overall American Cup Sprint and All-Round Champion. Furthermore, Brianna met the qualifying standards to compete at the World Cup, if she makes the team. According to speed skating results, Brianna is currently ranked 6th in the USA in the 1000-meter event.
There’s plenty of reason to expect more from Brianna.
As she continues to train with her coach Ryan Shimabukuro for the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, China, Bri is focused. Since her transition to the ice, Ryan Shimabukuro has been Brianna’s coach. Brianna owes her success to him. Moreover, Brianna claims that without his devotion and countless hours spent on perfection, she would not have achieved her results.
Family is Brianna’s backbone and a great source of support. Through the countless hours of training and the stress that comes with life, she is very thankful to have a tight-knit relationship with her family. They keep her inspired to continually push herself further. Beyond her family, Brianna credits three people to helping her achieve her success: Jondon Trevena, Justin Gardner, and Ryan Yakiwchuck.
Jondon Trevena was Brianna’s inline speed skating coach. He taught her that strong will and mental toughness coupled with faith in God would push her to the top. Jondon left Bri with the saying, “Control what you can control, God will control the rest”. In fact, Bri proudly has a tattoo with those meaningful words. The tattoo helps provide guidance to Bri when times are tough.
Justin Gardner is there for Brianna in more ways than one. He is a close family friend whom she considers her second Dad.
Finally, Ryan Yakiwchuck is her mental and wellness coach. Brianna owes her mental strength from the countless lessons in breathing he taught her. He also educated her on how to get in touch with her inner self. Ryan helps to ensure her body is always healthy and strong to compete at her highest potential.
Brianna’s passion is to be the best.
Her foundation and mantra is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me“- Philippians 4:13.
When Brianna isn’t going to school or training, she enjoys time with her family. She also enjoys spending time with her dogs, Bobby and Bron. Beyond skating, Brianna appreciates a long hike or bike ride.
