Cocoa Elite is happy to announce that QCW Women’s Domestic Elite Racing Team will be our Ambassador – Women’s Cycling. The QCW Women’s team will be a positive addition to our Elite Team of Ambassadors to help spread knowledge and information about cycling. We welcome them and look forward to their contributions.
Based out of Pennsylvania, QCW Women’s Domestic Elite Racing Team is comprised of 10 elite-level women cyclists. Their team consist of a well-rounded makeup of Category 1 and 2 athletes. The team focuses on professional level road racing, while still allowing riders the time and flexibility for personal careers outside of racing.
QCW works differently than most domestic elite teams in the United States. The team does not form a roster by accepting applications from outside riders. Instead, the team develops their riders on their roster from the ground up!
The domestic elite team works very closely with the QCW Cycling Club, mentoring category 3 and 4 women through weekly group rides, skills clinics and at racing events. Once a woman member of the club achieves a category 2 license, they are invited to race on the domestic elite team. Through this method, the team is able to passionately promote their mission of the development and growth of women’s cycling within the Philadelphia and Pittsburgh areas.
In other words, this methodology promotes a greater bonding and team-oriented structure amongst the teammates, creating a winning structure!
2015 marked the first year for the QCW women to compete as a domestic elite squad. During the season, they raced in 3 countries, 16 states and achieved 73 podiums finishes!
The team competed in several regional stage races, attended races on the USA Crits Series, National Criterium Calendar, National Racing Calendar and raced 3 UCI events: Joe Martin Stage Race, Winston-Salem Cycling Classic and Grand Prix Cycliste Gatineau. The team is highly competitive in the PA BAR, obtaining 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th finishes for 2015.
As 2015 was a learning year for QCW Women’s Domestic Elite Racing Team, they anticipate being much more competitive at the NRC level in 2016. The team also plans to expand their NRC attendance. The 2016 calendar is still in the planning stages, but they have interest in attending Redlands Bicycle Classic, Joe Martin Stage Race, Tour of the Gila, North Star Grand Prix, Tour of America’s Dairyland, along with several East coast criteriums and regional events.
