brian-burk-05We are extremely pleased to make this announcement.

Brian’s love of running did not develop naturally or from an early age. In fact, in high school he was kicked off his high school football team for not being able to run a mile. However, 18 years later Brian found his stride. When Brian was completing a remote one-year tour with the US Air Force he developed his passion for the sport.

While stationed at the Thule Air Base in Greenland, otherwise known as the top-of-the-world, Brian ran to get back into shape. He started with a modest 2 mile run and by the end of that year Brian completed a long run of 21 miles and had his sights on completing his first marathon. Brian ran 1,200 miles that year and has not looked back or stopped running since.

brian-burk-03Brian left Thule Greenland right as the unfortunate events of Sept 11th unfolded. As a member of the Air Force Special Operation Command, his running instantly took a backstage presence. He had to focus his energy on providing support during the early days of the Global War on Terrorism. In 2005, he was able to refocus his running efforts and ran his first marathon while stationed in the United Kingdom.

Stateside and with a few more marathons under his belt, Brian ran his first ultra-marathon, the Virginia 24-Hour Ultra Run against Cancer. During that race he fell in love with long distance endurance events. Without a plan he ran 52.5 miles without truly knowing what he was doing. Since that time and with a lot of help and inspiration from the running community, Brian ran races from 5k’s through the 100-mile benchmark. To-date Brian has accumulated two 100 mile races, sixteen marathons, forty ultras including seven 24 hour events.

Brian concentrates his running on giving back to the running community and completing the epic races, not on placing or being on the podium. His love of running and the comrade it creates motivates him to coach others to run distances they never thought possible. Brian has seen many of his friends go from running marathons to ultras and ultimately 100 miles races with his guidance and training help. He also founded a running club in his hometown community. Brian’s running has spilled over into his passion for writing about the sport. He has had two featured articles published in a national running magazine, numerous articles posted on running blogs and is the author of briansrunningadventures.com a blog owned and maintained by Brian. You can follow Brian on Twitter and Instagram with his handle @cledawgs

Brian and his wife Michele have two adult children, two grandchildren and two fur kids, miniature schnauzers, Carly and Emmy Lou.
